Tenured analysts in Boston, London and Singapore are critical to delivering alpha across our portfolios.
Rigorous analysis, strengthened by collaboration
Putnam has more than 30 research analysts based in Boston, London and Singapore. Some are focused on specific sectors, while others are aligned with Putnam equity strategies. The discussion, debate and idea exchange among these analysts leads to differentiated insights and high-conviction views on stock opportunities.
Extensive industry knowledge
Many of our analysts have years, in some cases, decades, of work experience in the sectors they cover. This has led to strong relationships with company management teams, which enhances our fundamental research. Our analysts are intensely driven, and the open-ended nature of the job means they are both flexible and self-directed.
Capabilities
Collaboration
Insights are enhanced by continuous formal and informal communication, teamwork and active debate.
Communication
Daily meetings, stock pitches and a proprietary publishing system are among the tools that support information sharing.
Working with this team is rewarding, fulfilling, and always interesting. I am so proud of the investment acumen of these tenured experts who think differently and work together to deliver performance excellence for investors."

ANALYSTS IN ACTION: PUTNAM U.S. RESEARCH PORTFOLIO
This strategy represents the best ideas from Putnam analysts. The portfolio consists of several sector-specific “sleeves,” managed by tenured analysts. These sleeve managers are sector experts who have full autonomy to make all buy/sell decisions in their portion of the portfolio.

Hybrid structure
Best-of-both approach
A notable feature of research at Putnam is our hybrid structure, in which some of our analysts are focused on specific sectors, while others are aligned with equity portfolios. We believe this best-of-both combination of product analysts and sector analysts enhances collaboration across portfolio teams and analysts.

Sector expertise is deeply valued
Many firms view the role of analyst as a stepping stone to managing a diversified portfolio. At Putnam, we empower our analysts to choose sector research as a complete career.
Two members of our sector analyst team are Megan Craigen, who has over 20 years of experience and currently covers US consumer stocks, and biotechnology analyst Noelle Tune, MD, who served in the investment industry from 1999 to 2008 and rejoined the industry in 2020 after completing her Doctor of Medicine degree and working as an emergency medicine physician.
Staying close to global fundamental trends
Teamwork across sectors and borders
Equity research at Putnam features a global footprint and a structure that encourages and rewards information sharing. Our team culture prizes collaboration, a diversity of views, continuous formal and informal communication, and active debate. We thrive on collaborating, with a collective goal of delivering results for investors.
Partnering across time zones
Di Yao and Andy O’Brien have established a productive partnership despite geographic and time zone differences. Working from Singapore, Di is a technology sector analyst and Portfolio Manager of Putnam’s Global Technology strategies. Andy O’Brien, based in Boston, specializes in the semiconductor, hardware and software industries. He is a Portfolio Manager of Putnam’s Global Technology and US Research strategies and has been in the investment industry since 2011.

Sharing different viewpoints
Communication matters: Equity insights, stock pitches and more
Our daily global equity insights meeting is the primary method of sharing ideas broadly. All of our analysts and portfolio managers, who collectively represent a range of sectors and portfolios, discuss company-specific research, critical market developments and key risks that may affect specific companies, industries, economies or regions.
We also carve out a designated time for stock pitches. This is an opportunity for analysts to present investment ideas, solicit feedback and learn whether others at the firm may have relevant views. It helps the analysts examine the risk/reward potential of new ideas by inviting the group to share its knowledge and experience.

How we collaborate
Daily stock pitch: In-depth discussions with global attendees
Weekly sessions: Portfolio manager positioning and insights, sector team discussions
Quarterly sector team meetings: Teams share industry and stock-specific views
