Steven McKay is the Head of U.S. Retirement, Insurance & College Savings for Franklin Templeton. In this role he is responsible for overseeing Franklin Templeton's U.S. institutional and advisory defined contribution, insurance sub-advisory, 529 businesses & market strategies. His responsibilities include national distribution, leadership on strategic partnerships/joint ventures, public policy and regulatory matters related to the broader U.S. retirement & insurance market. Mr. McKay is also a member of Franklin Templeton's Management committee.

Prior to joining Franklin Templeton, Mr. McKay was Head of Global Defined Contribution Investment Only (DCIO) and Institutional Management at Putnam Investments. In his role, he was responsible for the full breadth of Putnam's DC business, and institutional asset management business, which served investors and clients in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. His responsibilities also included oversight of Putnam's alternative asset management business, Japan business, and the firm's work with institutional affiliates. Mr. McKay was also a member of Putnam's operating committee. He first served at Putnam from 2012 to 2014 and rejoined the firm in 2016.

Mr. McKay has over 25 years of investment industry experience. Prior to rejoining Putnam, he was Head of Large-Market DC Sales at Empower Retirement from 2015 to 2016. In this role, he led the firm's distribution efforts in the $50 to $500 million market segment. Previously at Putnam, Mr. McKay served in numerous leadership roles, including as a Regional 401(k) Consultant and a DC National Sales Manager. Earlier, Mr. McKay was a Divisional Vice President at The Hartford Retirement Plans Group from 2008 to 2012 and held several senior leadership roles at MFS Investment Management/MFS Retirement Services from 1993 to 2007.

Mr. McKay earned a bachelor's degree from Salem State University.
